Bank reference letters for international procedures

We coordinate the apostille of bank reference letters issued in the U.S. for procedures abroad, such as opening an account, visa or residency processes. We review the letter first, because the procedure depends on who signs it, the paper it is issued on and the state, and we tell you what is needed before promising the procedure.

What it's for

What is a bank reference letter used for?

A bank reference letter confirms the client's relationship with the bank and is usually requested to open accounts abroad, for visa or residency processes, or for commercial procedures. For international use it may require an apostille.

Before the apostille

Key points about your bank reference letter

A bank reference letter is a private document; before it can be apostilled the signature usually must be notarized or authenticated.

Official bank letterhead

Ideally the letter should be issued on the bank's official letterhead.

A signature that can be authenticated

The signature may need notarization or authentication; the procedure depends on who signs and in which state.

Some banks don't notarize signatures

In that case we find the right route (for example, a certification or a notarized statement).

We review before promising the procedure

We first review the letter to confirm that it can be apostilled and how.

Good to know

How to have it ready

Notarized or authenticated letter

The notarized letter or the one with an authenticated signature is what gets apostilled.

Certified copy

In some cases a certified copy is used instead, when it applies to the destination country.

Translation

If the destination country requires it, we coordinate a certified translation.
