The basics

What is an apostille?

An apostille is a certification issued by a designated government authority. It authenticates the signature, the official capacity of the person who signed the document and, where applicable, the seal that appears on it.

It is used when a document issued in a country that participates in the Hague Convention must be presented in another participating country.

An apostille does not certify that the content of the document is true, nor does it by itself guarantee its acceptance. The authority receiving the document may require a recent version, a certified copy, a translation or other additional requirements.

Which procedure?

What does your document need?

Apostille

For documents that will be used in countries that accept the Hague Apostille.

Consular legalization

For documents destined for countries that do not accept apostilles or that require additional authentication before an embassy or consulate.

You don't need to know before contacting us

Send us a copy of the document and the destination country; we will identify the applicable procedure before you mail any original.

How it works

A clear process, from start to finish

1

Send us a copy

Send a clear photo or scanned copy by WhatsApp or email. Indicate the state or authority that issued the document and the country where it will be used.

2

Receive the review

We review the document and tell you whether it can be apostilled, whether an original or certified copy is needed, which prior authentications may apply, the estimated cost and the approximate processing time. The initial review is free, with no obligation. We normally respond within one business day.

3

We coordinate the procedure

Once the service is authorized, we receive the required documents, coordinate the procedure before the competent authority and return the package to the national or international address you indicate.

Good to know

Not every document follows the same procedure

Public documents

Birth, marriage, death and other official records generally must be certified copies issued by the corresponding authority.

Notarized documents

Powers of attorney, authorizations, affidavits and other private documents may require signature before a notary and, depending on the state, an additional certification before the apostille.

Court documents

Judgments, orders and case copies may need certification by the Clerk of Court.

Federal documents

FBI background checks and other federal documents follow a procedure different from state documents.
