What to do if a consulate rejects your apostilled document

A genuine apostille can still be rejected when it is attached to the wrong record, a translation is missing, the underlying document does not meet the required format, or the file does not satisfy the receiving authority's own rules. Ordering another apostille right away may not solve anything if the real cause sits in the underlying document, the translation or those same rules: the apostille is rarely the defective piece, the issue usually sits before or after it. Do not order a new apostille until you know exactly what failed.
Do not request another apostille until you identify whether the rejection stems from: the wrong document, the wrong apostille authority, an expired document, a translation that was not accepted, a missing prior certification, an altered document, or a destination country that requires a different legalization chain.
